Farrukhsiyar’s Farman to The British

 

                      

 

                                 Farrukh-Siyar’s Farman also known as “The Magna Carta of the Company”. It signed in 1715 between the Mughal emperor Farukh-Siyar and British, presented by John Surman, the Governor of Calcutta and William Hamilton. It giving the Company many important privileges in Bengal, Gujarat and Hyderabad. Feature of the Farman was :-

             

                                a) It exempted company from additional customs duties of the Company’s imports and exports with the annual payment of 3,000 rupees. That’s means company could import and exports without any problem of daily or monthly additional customs duties.

          

                                b) The Company was permitted to issue Dastaks or passes for the transportation of any goods.

          

                                c) It permitted that the Company minted coins could be used throughout the Mughal empire.

           

                                d) By this Farman, in Surat the East India Company was exempted from the levy of all duties for an annual payment of 10,000 rupees.
