The Policy of Ring Fence

Warren Hastings, who introduce The Policy of Ring Fence in British India after took charge as The Governor General. This rule was introduced to encounter the powerful combination of the Marathas, Mysore and Hyderabad to safe the neighbors’ frontiers. To safeguard against Maratha and Afghan Invaders Warren Hastings, then Governor General stationed British Forces to protect their territory against external aggression but at their own expense. That means in Ring Fence Policy any Allies States in Indian could require British Forces, which would be organized, maintained by the officers of the Company, but paid by the respective state.

In fact, Subsidiary Alliance System was the modified version of The Policy of Ring Fence.
